This Week....

This week I went to see the Valentino Exhibit in Brisbane and it was fantastic. I had no idea the amount of work and exquisite detail in his designs. It was fantastic to see them up close and many of them are true pieces of art.
I really enjoyed seeing the show and if you live in Brisbane it is on until the 14th November and well worth seeing.
After this I went and saw my eldest son, James, who was busy working at the Museum....
... in the dinosaur garden!
Also this week my youngest son, Jack, was inducted into the Student Council and received his badge. He is now Sports Promotions Captain for his school for 2011. His work has already started and he will have his hands full fundraising and promoting sport in his school. Next week is the Sports Awards night and I can't wait to see how he went this year.
Today I went to a lunch and stitch-along organised by the wonderful Maree of On My Verandah blog. Maree organised a few of us bloggers that live"fairly" close to each other to finally meet in person.
Above is Julie (private blog), Alison, Maree and Lyn (who will hopefully have her blog up and running soon). It was such a great day and so much fun chatting together and we did manage to do some stitching....
This is what I achieved today... one of Fairies in My Garden's Christmas decorations.
I also purchased a cute Snowman pattern and some gorgeous Theodora Cleave buttons
from Maree's on-line store. I couldn't resist.
Also this week I saw this gorgeous stocking on Jennys blog. Jenny makes the most beautiful Jingle Sox and for some time now I have been admiring them. When I saw this one made in beautiful Kate Spain fabric.... I knew I had to succumb to temptation and get one for myself for Christmas.
I'm so glad I did. It is so beautifully made and even larger than I thought it would be.
It looks lovely hanging up, waiting for the rest of the Christmas decorations.

Wow what a week it's been!
I hope you all have a wonderful, creative weekend!

Halloween Fun

Even though Halloween isn't very big here in Australia, it's been slowly growing each year and we see more and more decorations and costumes about. I found this great free printable book cover HERE and thought it was a fun idea! You just print it out and cover any book (I've used a plain old notebook). The beauty is when Halloween is over, you can take the cover off and fold it away until next year.
On the back it says "A Witch's work is never done!"
I've also made this small wall quilt full of pumpkins and witches.
More cute than scary I think!
I've just been to visit Amanda's blog and she has some wonderful links for making pumpkins - LOTS of different pumpkins!!! Might have to try and fit in a pumpkin to sit next to my Witch's book!
Hope you are all having a wonderful, creative week!

Tuesdays Treasures

This weeks treasure is a little Christmas quilt I made 10 years ago. What makes it so special is that my sons (aged 9 and 6 at the time) used their hands to paint the angels bodys and wings.
They used their fingers to paint the angels hair and hands.

Another treasure along the same lines is my painting apron. This would also be 10 years old and I wore it to painting classes. The boys also painted the angel on the front...
James' hands for the wings, and Jacks hand for the body.
I just love these little angels and I love to remember how small my sons hands were back then.
I also remember, that the boys had no problem covering their hands in paint and being extemely messy!!!
Pop over to Clare's blog and see who else is showing their treasures today....

What Makes Me Happy Week No. 43

My youngest son has played soccer for 7 years and absolutely loves playing it with a passion. This year his club was unable to put together a team for his age group, so this was the first time in years that he hasn't played. He was very disappointed. Last Friday night he got a call to see if he wanted to play in the off season ... you bet he was there!
I cannot tell you how much he enjoyed his first game in over a year and how much I enjoyed watching him play. Just driving back to the club got us excited and the game was fantastic. Then of course we talked about the game and remembered all the best parts on the trip back home in the car.Definitely watching Jack play and enjoying himself makes me very happy!
Hope you are having a wonderful Monday!

Lots of Pretty Things

I have seen lots of lovely hand made things on Jennys Blog lately and I have decided to look out for some old doileys and embroideries. Lucky for me I got the chance to spend the day with my eldest son yesterday and we hit the antique shops and second hand stores in Paddington.
I found a lovely assortment at my fave antique shop....
This is the front entrance of Paddington Antiques and I've always wanted to take a photo of it (and forgotten to up until now) and this....
is inside the foyer of the old theatre.
I also found this lovely little jug and handmade card using lots of old lace.
In Vinnies I found a couple of willow mugs and a gorgeous new Cue jacket for $20. The coffee mugs aren't old, but for perfect condition - made in England - willow mugs for only $1 each, they were coming home with me!
James got me this gorgeous doiley and a beautiful piece of fabric....

Of course we also went to lunch and had the yummiest meal together....
Char grilled Mediterranean vegetables and feta cheese and a coconut, mango and banana smoothie for me and a steak sandwich and potato salad for James... it was VERY good!!!
We had a brilliant day (as always).....

Back to inspiration from Jennys blog... This week I made some notebook covers using Blossoms great tutorial HERE and (a few!) tissue covers with a great tutorial HERE.
These will make great stocking fillers for Christmas.

Also this week I received a simply gorgeous surprise from Joy, who has just come back from a trip to Paris...
I was so excited and thrilled to bits with my beautiful thimble with the Eiffel Tower on it, a cute little magnet full of bling, and a wonderful little notebook that says "A little note from Teresa" - in French of course!!!
I just love it all - Thank you so much Joy... This was such a lovely surprise, and you could not have sent more perfect gifts!
I have also been in a swap with Katrin who lives in Germany. She has made me this cute little house and I have sent her one of my owls. If you go HERE you will see where my little owl now lives with all her other cute owls.
I have been busily making secret Christmas presents for swaps this week and can't show you anything just yet...maybe a few sneak peeks soon....
Hope you are all having a wonderful, creative weekend.

Tuesdays Treasures

I've missed the last two weeks for Tuesdays Treasures....the first week because I had no internet service and last week because I simply wasn't home all day!!! But this week I am back with another treasure to share.

These beautiful cameo earrings were my mothers and she gave them to me quite a few years back now. I knew they were given to her by her father (my Grandfather) but that is all I knew. The beauty of doing these posts every Tuesday is that I am finding out more about my treasures as well. I emailed my Mum to find out more about them and I learned that these earrings and the little guitar brooch that I showed HERE in an earlier post, were the only 2 things her Dad gave her. The brooch was given to my mum, from her father, who left the family of 9 children, when she was 7 years of age. Mum searched for him as an adult, & found him when she was 32 years of age, this is when he gave her the earrings. She had a beautiful relationship with him, but only for 11 months, when he suddenly died of a heart attack. So this means I have the first and last treasures that he ever gave her. I just love them, but they make me a little sad too.
My mum and I went on a holiday together at South Mole Island years back and just before we went over to the Island, we visited my Grandfather who lived close by. A few days later, whilst still on holiday, my Mum received the phone call that he had passed away. I have a lovely photo of the two of them just before he died and I am so glad that we got the chance to see him when we did.

Well I am off to Clares to see more Tuesdays Treasures.
Hope you're enjoying today!

What Makes Me Happy Week No. 42

What makes me happy this week?
SURPRISES!!
My husband is a very "spur of the moment" person and every now and then likes to just drop everything and drive somewhere, or plan something or do something without giving me any details as to what, where, why or who. Yesterday... was one of those days...
All I was told was we were going somewhere that would take about an hour and a half to get there, would be about 5 hours long and I would have to dress semi casual.
We arrived in Petrie and went to Old Petrie Town. This is a gorgeous little village full of little, old houses that have been turned into shops. On the weekends they have the best markets there.
I found this wonderful shop called TrishAlan Designs where they make the most beautiful hand dyed fabrics and threads. (Have a look at her page.. she has some fantastic tutorials there).
I was pretty happy!!!
This lovely hand dyed t-shirt found it's way into my bag as well as these.....
Yummy hand dyed silk threads!!!
Nice little shop and they do all the dyeing right there in this cute little house.
But the real reason we were at Old Petrie Town, was to go to the Pioneer Village Country Music Club.
Two wonderful country singers, Dianna Corcoran and Aleyce Simmons were putting on a concert and we were there to see them. They decided to join up and do the whole show together and it was just fantastic. Both played their own songs alternately and all done with just the 3 guitars. The girls really complimented each other and I think they had as much fun as the audience did.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Great music, great food, great atmosphere.

Of course there was some autographs to get at the end and we had them sign everything to my son Jack... who (being a guitar player himself) would have loved to have been there and caught their show as well.
I am very lucky to have had this surprise given to me and it was such an awesome day.
Mind you, in the past my husband's surprises have landed me at car shows and car race tracks and even a bush walk where I nearly broke my ankle as I had on the most inappropriate shoes for bush walking that day!!! But you have to make the most of every moment and love every second of it.... take the good with the bad.
This day was lucky enough to be perfect!
Hope you are having a wonderful Happy Monday day!!
