Too Much Socialising... Not Enough Crafting....

Yes, I know exactly why my crafting has been very slow of late!!!! Too much socialising and spending time with family and friends... And you know... It's been WONDERFUL!!!
I have been trying for ages to take my Mum to a little shop called Shabby Streak, at Brighton. Finally, we got there, and we were in Heaven!!! The first thing I saw was this sign.
Mum was very happy... the place was filled with butterflies.. so a couple of them went home with her to live with the other few hundred that live in her bus!!! They were so beautiful. This shop is just full of gorgeous, beautiful things and you could spend hours just wandering around and looking at everything.
We bought each other these matching gorgeous silver bangles. They say...
"LIVE ...... as though heaven is on earth"
How lovely is that?
Of course I was very happy too, as the shop was full of lovely French things as well. I love this little book Mum bought for me! We had so much fun!
We then had a delicious lunch at Cafe on the Park, on the waterfront at Shorncliffe.
What a great day... Mum will be heading off soon to continue her traveling around Australia, so days like this are very, very special!
Today was another, exciting, wonderful day. Today I met for the first time a lovely friend, who I met through blogging a while back. When I first "met" Tatyana, she was living in Russia...... So you can imagine how thrilled I was when I found out she was moving to Australia for a few years!!! Not only was she coming here, but she was going to be living only an hour away from me!!! Today we met up in the city and she was EXACTLY as LOVELY as I KNEW she would be!
We did a little shopping and indulged in what we both love.... crafting and books!!
Then we went to the Pancake Manor for lunch... It was really good and we both ate Pancakes with cherries and blueberries... mmmmm!!!
Tatyana makes the most beautiful beaded pieces and gave me this gorgeous pale lavender beaded fob... with a cute little silver shoe dangling from the end. I love it!!! It's attached to my scissors already.
Thanks for such a great day Tatyana... I really hope we get to do this again soon!
This blogging world is amazing. I've been very lucky over the last couple of years to meet so many wonderful friends through blogging. Like-minded, kindred spirits!
Hmmm.... now I'm sure I've got a couple of blocks I'm supposed to have finished for this month... July's not over yet is it???
Have a great weekend everyone!!!

Tuesdays Treasures

Firstly, a big THANK YOU to all those lovely bloggers who hoped I would find my camera...
Such a huge relief...
I swear some days I think I am losing my mind (or maybe it's my marbles!!)...
Secondly... Today is Tuesday and that means Melody is hosting Tuesdays Treasures again.
Today I wanted to show you this.....On my Mums travels around Australia, she has been to some very remote, outback Australian towns. When she was in Western Australia she visited the small town of Coolgardie. She found a man there who was selling old and unusual things he'd found while he was prospecting. As soon as she saw this beautiful, porcelain dolls head.. she knew I would love it.
It is at least 100 years old.If you look closely enough... you can still see her dainty eyelashes painted on.
I've taken this photo so you can see how small she is and also the black marks on her face where she's been through a fire.
I love her... She makes me wonder what she looked like when she was new....
I wonder who she belonged to and what happened to her owner...I wonder about the fire and what happened to her that left her buried for years and years...
If only she could talk....
Now to see who else is playing along today... I'm off to Melodys to see.
Happy Tuesday everyone!

What Makes Me Happy 25.7.2011

Well today I was going to tell you about the wonderful gifts I have received over the last couple of weeks.
I was going to show you some truly lovely presents from my Mum and my blogging friends.
I was going to show you their generousity and thoughtfulness.
I was going to show you how happy this makes me and how special that feeling is.
That was until I discovered my camera is not in my handbag...
and I carry my camera EVERYWHERE!!!
I'm hoping it fell out of my bag into my locker at work last night!!!
I am a little bit worried that I can't find my camera!!!
But I am still HAPPY!!!!
and I'm hoping that you are all having a wonderful, Happy Monday as well!!!!

Queensland Art Gallery

Last week I went along to the Queensland Art Gallery in Brisbane. Showing at the moment is "Art, Love and Life". Paintings by the Australian born E Phillips Fox and his English wife, Ethel Carrick Fox. There are over 100 paintings and it tells the story of an artistic marriage and partnership, one of the most significant in Australian art.It was wonderful. The paintings of both are truly beautiful and I really enjoyed the exhibition.
I love going to the Art Galleries and over the years there have been some wonderful exhibitions. I always go with my Uncle and he's terrific in letting me know what's on and what's coming up. I'm very lucky to have him to go to these types of things. It's nice to have someone with the same taste and he makes sure I get my dose of culture regularly!!!
Making it even more enjoyable is the fact that Mum is still here and was able to join us in the city to spend the day at the Museum of Art...
We also talked Mum into visiting the Surrealism Exhibition with us a couple of weeks back.
What a contrast to the "Art, Love and Life" Exhibition!!!
So different, sometimes dark and even a bit scary!!!
But also another wonderful Exhibition to see.
Have you been to the Art Gallery lately? I just love it... I love stepping back and seeing the paintings as they should be... but I also LOVE getting up close and seeing every individual brush stroke.... imagining I can see that paintbrush making that actual stroke. I've seen some very famous, wonderful paintings over the years and I feel very lucky that I've been able to experience them and their artist.
Just magic!
Hope you're having a wonderful weekend!

Some Finishes for July

I have finished my little scrapbook album that I made from Natalie Bird's book "Tis the Season"
I have completed all the pages and filled it with photos from Christmas last year.
It was fun to decorate the pages and and I've used everything I could lay my hands on!!!
Nice to have it completely finished.
I have also finished the 2 bags I started at the beginning of the month. The "Bali Bags" have now got their handles and buttons and are ready to go!

I was really happy with the buttons I found.. they match the fabrics perfectly! I also used some bronze coloured rings to make the handles a little different to just sewing them in.
So good to finally finish something! Things are so busy around here.. I am having trouble finding the time to do any stitching!
Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend and are finding the time to do the things you love!

Tuesdays Treasures

Today is our 25th Wedding Anniversary! I thought it only fitting that todays Tuesdays Treasures (hosted by Melody ) should be something related.
What better than my (very '80's) Wedding dress. It was nice to get it out and have a good, long look at it again.I'd forgotten all the pearls ... remembered all the lace and how huge the sleeves and skirt were... but forgotten all the gorgeous pearls. As soon as we'd set the date for our Wedding, my Grandmother told me she wanted to buy my dress for me... it was her gift to us and our wedding. Makes it very special to me.
I'd also forgotten how much fabric and lace went into making it... it is quite heavy.Of course Squeaky had to check it out and photo bomb another photo!
So what did we do on our special Anniversary?????
Well we spent the whole day at the Hospital!!! My husband is still having trouble with his leg from his motorbike accident. There is some "foreign" material still in his leg and causing problems.
We did, however, get to spend the day together as he would normally be at work...
And we did have a very nice lunch at the Normanby Hotel, just down the road from the Hospital!!
We still have those Wedding glasses too!
I'm off to Melody's to see who else is playing today and sharing their treasures!
Have a great day,

What Makes me Happy 18.7.2011

Or should I say.....Ce qui me rend heureux?
On Saturday I went to the French Festival at Southbank, Brisbane.. What a fabulous day!! The weather was threatening to rain all day and I almost didn't go... boy am I glad I decided to make the trip in...
I have a wonderful friend, Virginia, who shares my passion and love for all things French. As she has moved away (about 3 1/2 hours drive from me now!!) I didn't think for one second that she would want to go to the Festival. LinkI was looking at a lovely stall, when I got the surprise of my life and there was my friend!!! She had made the trip down and was there on her own too. It was such a lovely surprise and turned the day from a good day to a FANTASTIC day!!!!Look at us playing up for a photo with some wonderful French Soldiers!
The stalls were amazing... so many lovely things to look at. This was the most beautiful stall full of wonderful smelling French and French imported soaps.
Another gorgeous stall with lots of French Provincial goodies!!!
Of course, we didn't miss out on any of the delicious French food either.. Some crème caramel for starters. We also had some wonderful french bread with ham and brie... sooooo good!
Then some lovely French sweets.....
We had such a great day... Virginia speaks French beautifully and got the chance to have a great, lengthy conversation with one of the stall holders. I could understand some of it....
I came home with lots of lovely photographs, postcards, stickers, brochures, magnets, bookmarks, French magazines....
The top 2 little boxes hold beautiful hand made soaps...
...and I couldn't resist this little bird!
Two of my lovely blogging friends really wanted to go to the Festival as well, but weren't able to..
Both told me to have some Macarons for them....
So Selina and Joy.... this photo is for you....
Thanks Virginia... for such a wonderful day and it was so good to catch up with you.
You can't beat fun days with best friends...
Hope you are all having a Happy Monday!!!
Joyeux lundi mes amis!!
