My place and yours....

Another great theme for My place and yours.... this week... Where I sleep.
Of course it doesn't always look like this.. this is what it should look like everyday... but it is very rare to actually have the bed made!!! This the 'before' photo... First I had to remove the furball.. who thinks this bed is hers!!!I bought the bed head from an antique shop at Tamborine Mountain a few years back and I just love it. This quilt is called "Floral Dreams" and the quilt at the bottom of the bed is made in the same fabric range, only in flannels... nice and warm for Winter.
I have a habit of changing my quilts on the bed though, and this one is due for a change. My favourite doll - my button head doll - sits nicely on there... but she gets turfed off every night of course!
On either side of the bed are two of the lead light lamps I've made over the years, with bases my Mother in law gave us many years back... also hand made. My gorgeous old clock belonged to my Nanna and the box was made by Jack a few years back in school. My teddy was bought for me after a trip to Seaworld, where I fell in love with the polar bears.
It is a very tiny room, but I have managed to cram a lot in there...
I sure love that bed after a long night shift at work....
Want to play too and share in My place and yours????
Just go HERE and join in...
Have a great day!

Halloween Fun and an update.....

Even though we don't celebrate Halloween here, I have always wanted to have a go at carving a pumpkin. Every year I say I'm going to do it, and then Halloween has been and gone...
This year I decided it was time to have a go.....
Boy I'm glad I did.. I didn't know just how much fun it was and how great they look at night with a candle inside.
He's sitting here in all his glory next to my little witch and a few Halloween things I've made over the years.
I had no idea how difficult it would be to carve the pumpkin, so I got some great tips from this site HERE. I also found some wonderful templates HERE.. for the actual carving. I chose the face aptly named "Happy Jack"
I'm really pleased with the way it turned out.
This is another little Halloween project I've made.. only a much cuter version of the carved pumpkin I think!
Now for some updates..These blocks are from my Dear Jane quilt. I started it last year and have a total of 20 blocks made so far (there are only 169!!!! - and then there are the triangles around the border!!!!) The lovely Vicki (of The Pickledish Patch) and Dawn (of As Sweet as Cinnamon) have started a wonderful blog called Janiac's Unite. This is to help people like me, get their enthusiasm back and continue making blocks for this quilt on a regular basis... all to reach our goals of finishing the quilt.
If you're interested in joining up...go HERE for all the information you need.
These 7 blocks are from the top row.....
I love this quilt and really enjoy tackling each of the little 4 inch blocks.. I really hope this motivates me to keep going with it.

I would also like to thank all my blogging buddies who left such lovely comments on Jacks achievements at his Sports Awards night..... THANK YOU... I really appreciate all the wonderful things you said and Jack has read them all too.
An update on his Queensland trials.... He tried out against 11 other boys last weekend in the triple jump, but this is as far as he got. I'm so proud of him for getting this far... and for giving it his all and trying SO hard to go as far as he could. It's been a fun, exciting journey this year for him with sport and I will definitely miss it now that his schooling years are coming to an end.
Well that's me up to date...
Hope you've all had a great week and have an even better weekend!!!!

Pot holder madness...

Remember this pot holder pattern I bought at the Craft Fair....
Well it turned into these......

So much fun to make.. they are a little addictive!!!

I've given away all of these guys so now I'll have to make some more! Lucky they are a lot of fun to make!

I've also made this pot holder. I've always loved this "chenille" look of sewing and cutting layers of fabric. I found this great book at the library and decided to give it a go...

There are a few other pot holders in this book I would like to make. Being small, they are fun, quick and easy to make.
Hope you're having a great day... and maybe getting a little sewing in too....

Tuesday Treasures

Yesterday I went searching through the cupboards for some Halloween things I've made for a display... and I came across these plates. When my boys were in Pre School (aged 5 years) they both made a plate each. It was a fund raiser for their school and a wonderful way to preserve their drawings at that time.

The above plate is James and shows our house, his lovely smiling face and a clown and some planes.. oh and also the way he wrote his name.
This one is Jacks when he was also 5 and shows cute little birds. I love the way he drew the face on the birds, facing the front, and the beak still on the side.

When James and Jack were 11 and 8 years old they made this plate for me. James drew on the left and Jack on the right... That's supposed to be me... I forgot I used to be a punk with purple hair and rings in my ears and nose. Jacks picture of me on the right is a little kinder he he!!! Those little green things beside me are kisses and hugs... awwwwww!!!

This plate is very special.... I divided it into quarters and each of us....including my husband (I don't know how we managed to convince him to do this!)...drew a picture of ourselves. Mikes section shows him fishing and... is that a halo around his head???? James is playing soccer and both Jack and I have teddies in our pictures. This one was made in 2000, so James was 9 and Jack was 6.
Such great memories and so cute to see the pictures my boys were drawing when they were little.

Another picture I want to share today is a photo my brother sent me...

Another 2 of my treasures...

My brother and my husband.... this was taken at Phillip Island. My brother says..."don't let the blues skies fool you. Just can't communicate how cold, wet and windy it was there. At one stage, the rain was hitting our faces so hard, it was like being stabbed by thousands of tiny ice needles! Siberia absolutely lived up to its name!"

I love this photo...they look like they're having the time of their lives, even if they were freezing!

Well I'm off to see if anyone else is playing today and sharing their treasures with Melody.

Have a great day!

What Makes Me Happy 24/10/2011

I am a very proud mum today... Nothing makes me more happy than seeing my kids happy... to see them achieve their goals and to see them rewarded for their efforts and determination and hard work.

Last Friday night was Jacks Sports Awards night for his last year of school. As Jack said himself, this is the best night of the whole year!
The obligatory goofy photo with his mates....
Don't they look swish in their suits?

We knew Jack was up for 3 awards - bronze award for Athletics, silver award for triple jump and Age Champion Award (which he managed to received all 5 years of high school). A lovely surprise was to see him recieve the Top 3 Sports Performer Award for year 12 as well.
But the best was yet to come.....

My Jack received this....

2011 Senior Sportsman of the Year Award!!!

Jack was thrilled to bits... this is something he hoped with all his heart he would receive, but never let himself think it could be on the cards...

The following day I took a photo of him in his Sports Captain uniform...with all his medals and trophies.

His name is now on that gorgeous shield ... pretty darn exciting!!!

However, he was even more touched with the wonderful gifts his Sports teachers gave to him after the ceremony. This shirt has been signed with messages from his fellow students, captains and teachers with the most inspiring and heartfelt words. A bag and hat with his beloved house mascot - the Blaine Dragon. And a fantastic framed photo of himself in mid flight, jumping at the Athletics carnival. His teacher has written a lovely message on the photo as well.

It was a magical night... full of inspiration, admiration, excitement and

happiness.

I'm so proud!

Happy Monday to you....

I hope you find something to make you happy today... and every day!!

my place and yours

The theme this week from My place and yours is your favourite pincushion.

Now I have more pincushions in my house than I will ever need .....

but this one is my absolute favourite....

My wonderful friend, and stitching buddy, Helen, made this for me Christmas 2009.

I love it because it is everything I adore...

Vintage, lace, old buttons, beautiful stitchery, gorgeous pink floral fabrics...

It even has a gorgeous needlecase attached..

Isn't it just too beautiful??

Too beautiful to stink a pin in it????

I'm off to see who else is playing along today. You can leave your link HERE if you want to play too.

Brisbane Craft Show

Yesterday I spent the day at the Brisbane Craft Show and had a wonderful day. I haven't been for a few years, so I was really looking forward to it.
It was the perfect excuse to catch up with my blogging buddy Tatyana.
Of course I found her as soon as I got there... in amongst
the beads!!!
We had so much fun... and we were only a "little" bit naughty with our spending!!!
It was also the best opportunity to meet, for the first time - in the flesh he he! - another blogging friend Merilyn. Who traveled (a lot further than I did) with a few of her friends to the show. I feel like I've known Merilyn (on the right) for ages and she was just lovely. You should check out her blog Quiltminstrel and see the amazing blocks she is making for her Civil War quilt... very inspiring!
I am so glad I got to spend the day with Tatyana and to meet Merilyn at the show yesterday. This blogging world I'm caught up in is wonderful for meeting like-minded friends!!
On my list of things to get yesterday (and I succeeded!!!) was some giggle buttons and hanger for a new project I'm starting, and some cottage garden threads. I also picked up some of Lynette Andersons fabric and some gorgeous lace flowers. I couldn't resist Natalie Birds stitchery "Friendship Tree" ...
especially when I could purchase the frame as well...
and these gorgeous Theodora Cleave buttons were included.
My last purchase (literally as I was walking out the door) was this cute little owl potholder pattern and fabric... I can't wait to make this!
Such a fun, fast, whirlwind trip to the show... but I loved it!!!
I also wanted to show you what my husband brought back from his trip to Phillip Island for our sons...
Not only did he buy them a Casey Stoner cap each....
But he managed to get Casey to sign each of them as well!
How wonderful is that???
He was going to give the boys the caps for Christmas... but he was too excited and gave them away as soon as he got home.
Nice to have him home too I might add....

So I wonder who else went to the Show on Thursday...
I wonder if I walked right past any other bloggers there that day....
Now to get back to normal... I have a mountain of washing waiting for me and a carpet in dire need of a vacuum... ho hum!!!!
Hope you have a great day!!!
