What Makes Me Happy (and a finish!)

Making me happy this week is lovely surprise parcels in the mail!!!
I was very lucky to receive, not one, but two lovely little surprise gifts this week from two of my lovely blogging friends... and it's not even my birthday!!!!
Through blogging I have met some truly lovely friends over the years..... very thoughtful, wonderful friends.
My friend Tatyana has just come back from a trip to Sydney and found this gorgeous little thimble for me. We both love owls and I'm so glad she thought of me to send this....
Isn't he just so cute? I love him and the card was gorgeous too.
Thank you so much Tatyana... my collection of thimbles has certainly got some beautiful thimbles in it - thanks to you!!!
On the same day (!!!!) I received another little parcel of goodies from my lovely friend Jan.
Another beautiful card and the loveliest little fabric bag (which I just love) and a sweet embroidered butterfly.
I am so lucky to have such lovely, thoughtful friends.
Jan's present was wrapped in this gorgeous fabric! Covered in Eiffel Towers... both friends know me very, very well!!!!
The piece of fabric was the perfect size to make this little bag. I love these bags... they are so handy and sturdy and nothing falls out....
I've made this for my toiletries for a trip I'm taking next week......
Thanks so much Jan... I didn't waste a single bit of the fabric!!!!!
I've finished it off with an Eiffel Tower charm on the zip. I'm so happy with my little bag!
Another thing making me happy.......
It's just 5 sleeps until I see this boy of mine (the one on the right!!). My youngest son and I are flying to Sydney next week, getting picked up from the airport by my eldest who I haven't seen for 3 months. We are then heading to the beautiful Hunter Valley for my nieces wedding.
I cannot wait!!!!
I'm so excited!!!!!
I hope you are having a wonderful weekend .....
and I hope something or someone is making you happy too..

Tuesday Treasures

A few weeks ago I showed you this gorgeous doily that my Great Grandmother made. In the post I said how I remembered her crocheting little shoes and bells. Well my Dad just happened to read that post and sent me a lovely email. He said he still had one of Granny Angus little shoes and he wanted me to have it!!!!
Last week when I visited my Dad he gave me this! It's one of her tiny little crochet shoes and I can't believe it still looks as good as the day she made it. Not being a crocheter - I am really amazed at how you can crochet and make such a delicate, intricate shape like this!!!!
Little tiny flowers on the toe and she has stitched a silver thread all around the edge. It's just beautiful and I love it so much.. I am especially happy that Dad gave it to me... But that's not all......
Dad also gave me this little chair. My Great Grandmother also made this.. I don't remember it at all, so it was a lovely surprise to see it. It's been made out of a can and was probably made when the aluminium can was first made and started being used here (which we've googled and found to be late 1960's, early 1970's).
There is so much work in it and it's so ornate. She has made tiny little cuts nearly all the way down the can and then rolled and twisted each section to make the back, the legs, the arms and tiny little details along the front.
I think it's so lovely and I will treasure it and the little tiny crochet shoe.
This is a photo of my Greant Grandparents on their wedding day.
What an amazing, talented lady my Great Grandmother was!
I am linking up with Melody again today for Tuesday Treasures.
I am off to see who else is sharing their treasures today.
Have a great day!

Baby Sewing and a Swap

It has been a great day today.... lots of glorious sunshine, so all the washing is washed and dried.... a wonderful, long telephone call from James this morning (hard to believe he's sitting there surrounded in snow and the sun is shining brightly here!)....some sewing was done and a baby gift has been (finally) finished... and one of my favourite bands has just released their new album - so I've been listening to it all day.
I was looking for an owl tutorial the other day and came across this gorgeous little fellow, used for a soft toy and for a baby's bib. As my friend has just become a Grandmother I thought this was something cute to make for the baby.
I found the tutorial and pattern for the bib HERE on Stubbornly Craftys blog. Lovely and easy to make and something a little bit different.
I've lined the back with some lovely, soft flannel fabric.
See what happens the second I take my sewing machine cover off my machine?? Cookie finds it very comfortable and turns it into a bed. No wonder it always looks a bit crushed!
Another thing I am up to at the moment is a doiley swap. As soon as I saw Fee's post about a swap involving doileys, I knew it was something I wanted to do.
This photo (above) is what I've sent my partner:
A fat quarter of fabric, 2 doileys (embroidered and crocheted), a metre of ribbon and 6 buttons.
And this is what my partner has sent to me. My partner is Michelle from the Christmas Beetle.
Now what am I going to make Michelle out of her lovely fabric and doileys?????
I will show you soon what I come up with as this is a pretty quick swap and we only have a couple of weeks till we have to post the surprise back to our partners. Should be fun!
And no post is finished without a food photo....
I love this recipe for Banana Sour Cream Cake that I got from the gorgeous Chooky Blue. It has become a firm favourite in this house. I love that the recipe makes 2 cakes - not that either one of them lasts that long.
Hope you're having a lovely weekend.
The weather is getting a lot warmer, but not too hot yet...and blue, blue skies.. just lovely.
What are you up to today????

What Makes Me Happy 17.9.12

Making me happy this week is spending the day with my family.
We were all finally able to get together at my Dad's house to celebrate my Dad's birthday and Fathers Day.
It was wonderful, not only was my Dad there (of course) but my brother was up from Melbourne, and my sister and her daughters were there too.
This little cutie is my niece's daughter who I don't get to see very often. She is gorgeous and such a little sweetie. We played together, colouring in and playing with my Dads (her great grandfather's) rocks and shells around the goldfish pond. I seriously could just pop her in the car and take her home with me... I actually tried to do that before she left!!! ha ha!!!
This is my sister's youngest daughter and I love her to pieces. Both my nieces are like the daughters I never had and they are both such beautiful girls. What made this photo so special to me is that Maddi posted it to Instagram with the title "I love my Aunty". Makes my heart swell! It was really lovely to spend the time with all the girls...
And the boys... oh yeah they were there too... My Dad and my brother as well as my hubby and youngest son.
The boys hit the pool table!!!! and I'm sad to say that my pair lost to my Dad and brother!!!!
Such a great day... lots of time just sitting around the huge table and chatting and catching up.Dad and Maggie put on a lovely, delicious barbecue and lots of yummy fresh fruit for dessert.
Too quickly these days are over..... but I look forward to the next family get together ... I hope it's soon.
What's making you happy this week? I hope you got to spend it with the people you love as well.

Delicious Strawberry Oatmeal

My absolute favourite breakfast is bircher. I had it for the first time at a quilt retreat a few years ago and I just couldn't get enough of it. Yesterday I found this wonderful little recipe on Chantelle's fabulous blog Fat Mum Slim. It is similar in that it's oats soaked in milk and greek yoghurt overnight, and ready to eat the next morning.
I loved that it's full of delicious strawberries, and they are so yummy at the moment.
It's such a lovely, delicious, and very healthy breakfast. Best of all you put all the ingredients in a jar in the fridge the night before - and when you get up in the morning and are racing around the house, like a crazy person, because you're late for work... it's completely ready to go... you could even eat it straight out of the jar.  However I did put in a bowl to make it look nice for the photo this morning.
You definitely should go and check out Chantelle's blog and try this recipe... It's so good for you... oats, skim milk, low fat greek yoghurt, strawberries...Very healthy! and it fills you up. She has lots of other lovely recipes to try there too!
Hope you had a great day!!!!

I Am Soooooo Lucky!!!!!

I know it's been said before....
But Blogging friends... and catching up with Blogging friends.... is just the best thing ever.
I was so lucky today to catch up with my blog buddy Michelle (Rag-Tag Stitchin' with Michelle Ridgway)
This is one very special lady with a big heart! We have been trying to catch up for ages and today was finally the day we could have a cuppa and a chat.... and boy did we chat!!! As I said to Michelle... I honestly could have talked to her all day!
It's so lovely to meet like-minded people and others who are interested in the same things you are, and love the same things you love and feel the same way you feel about things. I feel like I've known Michelle all my life. It was so much fun and I loved every second of our day together..
She was very naughty and gave presents... I love the soap and look at the dainty, gorgeous little crocheted flowers on it! And her thoughtful gift of a such a pretty torch ... I work  nights and Michelle thought it would be very handy coming home at night for me. It certainly will and it's hanging on my bag already!!!
Oh and we were both a little naughty... and what would a post be with a picture of something yummy to eat???
This was the most delicious caramel tart and we both tucked in to one of these!!!!
Such a lovely day... Thank you so much Michelle.... I enjoyed your company and all the talking.. Lucky they didn't kick us out of the dining room he he! I look forward to the next cuppa and chat!
Blogging friends are the BEST!
I hope you've had a lovely day today too!

Catching Up with Blogging Friends

Me, Sandi, Khris and Helen
Is a LOT of fun!!! Yesterday was our normal stitching day together and we had a visitor!!! It was Khris from Sew Prim Khris!
Khris was one of the first people I started following when I got my blog up and running 3 years ago. At that time she was living in Adelaide.... a bit far away for a visit!!!! But she's back, living in Queensland and close enough to visit us. It's so special meeting blogging friends "in real life" he he!!! She's just as lovely as I thought she would be... and fitted in VERY WELL with our stitching group... I don't think we scared her off with all the laughing and loudness!
She even managed to get some stitching done and this is the gorgeous little quilt she finished yesterday.
Thank you for coming to visit Khris!
It was such a great day!
Hope you come back and visit us again.... we'll be on our best behaviour!!!
