Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!
Tonight my son and I are off to a special "Halloween" screening of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" in the city. Can't wait... I haven't seen the movie for years, but when I was a teenager and in high school, this movie was screened at the New Farm Picture theatre for months and months..... and I went so many times I lost count. This movie and "Star Wars" were the movies of my teenage era! Sad, but true!
I hope you all have a great night.... with only treats and no tricks!!!!

To all my lovely blogging friends on the east coast of the US... I hope you are well and safe. I have been watching the news and can't believe how huge Hurrican Sandy is and how much devastation she is leaving in her tracks. Stay safe and my thoughts are with you.

What Makes Me Happy 30.10.12

Making me very happy today is finally getting back to my stitching group and spending the day with my stitching buddies.  It's been many weeks, with a wedding, holidays and eye surgery getting in the way of my usual Tuesday get-together with the girls.
Today was also the first day I have done any close up embroidery work. It was lovely to sit, stitch, chat, laugh and catch up with the girls....
Oh and of course there was lots of yummy things to eat as well......
I think this is totally appropriate ha ha!!!
Also making me very happy this week is two of my dear friends making me feel very special.
As I didn't go to the Craft show this year... (there wasn't much point straight after the eye surgery as I couldn't see)....I had 2 very lovely surprise parcels in the mail. My gorgeous friends, Virginia and Tatyana made sure I didn't miss out..
Both parcels were full of wonderful patterns and fabric... perfectly suited to my loves and perfectly suited to me!! I am so spoilt, but so very lucky to have such wonderful, thoughtful friends. These gifts are so much better and so much more special than going to the show or anything I could have found there. You two have no idea how thrilled to bits I am or how happy you make me!
Thank you sooooooo much!!!
What's making you happy this week?
Is it friends? family? doing what you love?
I hope so!!!!
Have a great day!

Saturday Morning Catch Up!

Good Morning! Hope you're having a great start to the weekend.
It's been so hot here the last couple of days, and very hazy with all the bush fires around us.
It looks like today is going to be another scorcher - so for breakfast I felt like something nice and cold....
Fresh bananas, frozen blueberries and honey flavoured yoghurt... a good start.....
Mt Lindsay... just up the road....
My eyesight is still on the mend and unfortunately everything is still very blurry. Huge "Thank You" to all the lovely well wishes!!!
My sewing has been quite limited and I'm only managing some basic sewing... but I have made a few things...
Like Moustache cushions!!!!
Just in time for Movember!!!! Just a bit of fun and they make a great, quirky home decor item.. ha ha!!!!
I did make two of them, but one of them has disappeared already.....
I have also managed some lovely, simple Christmas stockings from Tilda.
Starting to feel the Christmas Craziness creeping up on me.....
Last night I saw Julia Morris at the Tivoli Theatre.  How can I have lived all my life near Brisbane and never been to the Tivoli Theatre?????? It is absolutely gorgeous.. built in 1917 and restored so beautifully. Just loved it... Oh and Julia was FANTASTIC.. I laughed so much I had tears streaming down my face. The guy she pulled out of the audience at the end of the night and sang "Islands in the Stream" with, though, absolutely stole the show!!! What a crack up. Big thanks to Jack, who ended up using one of the tickets to the show at the very, very last minute!!!
Hope you're all having a great weekend!!!

What Makes Me Happy 23.10.12

Making me very happy over the last couple of weeks is having James home. So far this year he's been living in the UK for 6 months and working in Perisher for 3 months. Tomorrow he leaves for Japan and the UK again for another 4 months. It doesn't get any easier - these trips to the airport, saying "goodbye" over and over again!!! BUT the time he has been home has been wonderful and he has managed to cram lots of fun times and visits in to this short space of time. I am missing him already but I also am thrilled he is having all these wonderful life experiences, and making so many amazing memories. It's been a wonderful couple of weeks and so lovely to have both my boys home! What more could I want?
Have a great week!

Doily Swap Part 2

This is the second part of my Doily Swap with my partner Michele.
Above is the fabric, doilys, ribbon and buttons that I sent to Michele to play with.
I absolutely love what she has made for me!!!
This is the wonderful surprise parcel that arrived yesterday!
The embroidered doily has been made into a gorgeous, vintage looking little pouch. The ribbon threaded through the top and gathered up. I just love the little notebook with it's gorgeous fabric flower on the front.
How cute is this little needlecase.. I just love how Michele has used the crochet doily. She's cut the flowers off separately and used them as accents on this and the zippered purse. So clever. Inside were some gorgeous stork scissors, a  little Christmas charm and tape measure.
More surprises inside! A pen and caramello chocolate (my fave!!!) and lovely sandalwood soap.
I have been very spoilt!
It's all in the little details!!! I just love the way Michele has decorated all the pieces from embroidered flowers from the doily, to the fabric flower and buttons on the notebook. And did you see the zipper fob????
How gorgeous is my sparkly little diamante "T"?
Thank you so much Michele for my gorgeous swap gifts. You have done an amazing job and I love everything you have made and included. It was such a wonderful experience opening it all up yesterday. Thank you so much for being my partner!!!
Have a great weekend!

Doily Swap

A few weeks ago I showed you some photos of the fabric, doilys, buttons and ribbon I received when I joined in Fee's Doily Swap. My partner is Michele (of The Christmas Beetle) and she has received her parcel from me, so I thought I would show you what I came up with.
The fabric Michele sent me to "play" with was gorgeous. I managed to use nearly all of it, as well as the doilys, buttons and ribbon. Michele suggested a needle case and it was a lot of fun to design something of my own, but using what she had sent me.
First I tea stained the doilys to tone in with the fabric.....
This is what I came up with...
It opens up into 3 sections with pockets for needles, scissors etc...
As well as a piece of wool felt (under a doily piece) for pins and needles.
There was just enough fabric left for a little zippered purse.
This was so much fun and really made me think!!!! A little bit out of my comfort zone when you have to think of something yourself and not run out of what you've been sent.
Thanks for being my partner Michele and thanks also to Fee for organising this fun swap!
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!!

Edit: I received my parcel this afternoon from Michele with all my goodies!!! So love it all!!! Will be back tomorrow to show you what I received.

What Makes Me Happy 14.10.12

Todays post is a bit early for Monday and is really much more of a "What I'm grateful for" post instead of what's making me happy,
About 4 years ago it was found I had this thing called Salzmann's Nodular Dystrophy... in both eyes. As far as I can gather it's caused by sun damage and is a growth covering most of my eyes, which unfortunately over the last few years has become a lot worse and is now distorting my vision.
Last Friday I had the first of 2 surgeries.. this one to my left eye. Today is the first time I've been able to sort of "see" well enough to even look at a computer. So I thought I would quickly jot down a few thoughts...
Firstly I would love to hear of anyone else who has this or knows of anyone who has it. I'd never heard of it before. I'm hoping the surgery went well as I've been told it may have to be redone in 2 years or 10 years depending on how well the surgery went. After the pain I've been through, I am seriously hoping mine lasts 10 years. The doctor didn't inform me until I was prepped for surgery on Friday that the pain would be intense.... His exact words were that the pain was like being stung in the eye by a blue bottle jellyfish... I think that was a pretty apt description.
To all the friends who have been cracking "pirate"jokes... my "patch" turns out to be a clear contact lens sort ..... how boring!!!! So no parrot is needed... sad face!!!!
It has led me to think about how important our sight is.. We all know that and I'm sure we all think how lucky we are to have it. I am so grateful for my sight and I appreciate it even more since the real scare of losing it has hit home. The last few months have been quite scary with how quickly my sight was deteriorating and I couldn't understand how things I couldn't make out were being seen easily by those around me.
Hopefully this is the start of good things and my eyesight will improve... well at least not get any worse!!!
I am grateful for the doctors and assistants and todays technology ....
Grateful for all the lovely messages and phone calls from family and friends...
Grateful for all the help at home.... there is a lot to do as everyday keeps on going forward...
Have a wonderful week... and happy Monday... tomorrow!!!

What Makes Me Happy 8.10.12

Making me happy this week is ..... Weddings!!! And this wedding of my niece's was absolutely wonderful. I am so happy to see this gorgeous, perfect, happy couple finally marry and have the time of their lives at their wedding

My niece and my mother in law (her Grandmother) who made the beautiful wedding dress.
My niece and nephew looking absolutely stunning....
James blowing bubbles...
My husband who was actually at Bathurst for the weekend race... drove the 4 hour trip there in the morning and back (another 4 hours) much later that night after the wedding!!! He would have been so tired....but he wasn't going to miss the wedding.

Me and the boys...covering up all their injuries from the motorbike accident 2 days before....Aarrgghh!
How wonderful is this signpost? Made by the Brides step-dad..
There were so many wonderful things to take photos of...
The tables were beautifully set with old tin teapots and kettles filled with flowers. Fireplace ablaze...amazing wedding cake with cute exact replica figurines on the top...other family wedding photos set up near a book of messages from the guests...a bucket of dancing shoes (thongs) for later that night...a wonderful framed painting of a tree - which we all added a leaf to - by printing our finger and finger painting a leaf onto it in all different colours.. I just loved that!

Everyone had their photo taken with frames like this and added a written message to the couple My boys wrote "Grow old, grey and more in love"... All the photos were shown to the couple on a big screen after the speeches.
The reception was held nearby in a beautiful hall next to the cricket oval. So while the wedding party were having their photos taken, we were able to play cricket, bowls, and croquet.
It really was a wonderful wedding... and such a happy, fun wedding too..This couple could not wait to get married ... and this photo just sums up how happy and excited they were to tie the knot....
I don't normally put up photos unless I've taken them, but this photo (I'm sorry, but I don't know who took it) just makes me smile so much... I absolutely love it... this photo captures the pure happiness and joy of the lovely couple proudly displaying their newly signed Marriage Certificate.
I'm so glad I got to be a part of their celebrations and their wonderful day.
And what a beautiful place to go to for the ceremony as well... the gorgeous Hunter Valley.
I am still smiling, remembering the day!
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend... and Happy Monday!!!

Some nicer photos.....

Today is the day of my nieces wedding. It is so beautiful here in the Hunter Valley. Where we are staying is just amazing.
The boys are a lot better today, but still very sore and still bandaged up. They're trying to hide all the bandages under long sleeves for the wedding!
Thought I'd share some photos of where we are staying.....
Have a great weekend!
