July Stitch A Long Project

I have just finished this months Stitch A Long Project run by Chookyblue (and in the nick of time I might add).
This month we worked on Natalie Birds "Chilly Penguin Bag" from her "Tis the Season" book.
I've used my favourite French General fabrics....
.... And I have changed the stitchery to a friends initial for an upcoming birthday. The stitchery is from Michelle Ridgway's lovely Stitchers Alphabet Stitchery pattern.
Another fun project.. I loved making the hexagon panel and putting the whole bag together.
Now I must have a look and see what we're making next month.
Hope you're having a lovely weekend

Gorgeous Finds & Purchases

I just had to share my latest purchases!
I found these gorgeous little quilt block pendants in Lynette Anderson's online shop Little Quilt Store

Aren't they amazing?
So tiny and so perfect. They are only one and a quarter inches in size!
I have bought two, one for a gift, but I am not sure which one to keep and which one to give.
They are made in the US by a very talented quilter who stitches these amazing miniatures and then her husband does the glass and the stained glass style edging.
They are beautifully made and you can even see all the construction detail on the back.
 I think they are amazing.
Lynette has quite a few to choose from and I struggled with the decision of which one to choose for ages.
Also, another purchase this week that I'm in love with....
I visited the Quilt exhibition again this week at the Queensland Art Gallery. I came away with these gorgeous reproduction fabrics.
What I love about them is that they've been reproduced from a patchwork coverlet made in Britain and dated 1797. I just couldn't walk past them! This quilt show is wonderful. I don't think I will ever tire of seeing these absolutely amazing, intricate  handmade masterpieces.
I have been working away on this months  Stitch A Long project and just need to stop working long enough to put the bag together! Hopefully this weekend as I'm running out of time to finish it by the end of July! Nothing like a bit of pressure!
Have a wonderful weekend.
Hope you get to spend time doing what you love or be with the ones you love!

A New Lease....

For my birthday this year my wonderful sister in law gave me this gorgeous little vintage iron. How cute is it? We had no idea if it worked and I wasn't too sure about plugging it in!
I gave it to a friend as her hubby is an electrician to see what he thought. I am very happy to say that (as it didn't work) he has fixed it and made it all very safe to use. I can't wait to take it on the next retreat or class! It's so lovely and small and works really well.
All I need now is to make it one of those fabric cases that folds out into an ironing mat! I've seen them for the larger irons but I'm sure I could adjust it to fit.
Love love love my little old iron!
Thank you Leah, Leona and David!!!
Have a great day - I'm off to google iron covers......

O'Reillys

Yesterday we took the 4WD track (Duck Creek Road) up to O'Reillys.  It is such a beautiful place and I love visiting. Even the trip up and back is breathtaking.

We had a great trip up and then enjoyed a cuppa and the gorgeous views.

In fact we enjoyed it sooooo much we decided to do it all again today.

This time we took my eldest son and his girlfriend who is visiting from the UK. I really thought she would like to see how beautiful it is here.

Today we also did the tree tops walk and climbed all the way to the very top.

And when I say "climb" I really mean "climb". It looks scary but I did it! This is only the first stage - there's another climb after this one.

The views are amazing when you get so high up in the canopy.

Back down on terra firma we fed the birds. They are beautiful and there were lots of photos taken - so many that had to be deleted!!!! It was crazy and chaotic and so much fun.

It was another wonderful day at such a beautiful place.

On the way back down we spotted this little guy trying hard to burrow into the ground out of sight.

A wonderful steak at the Canungra Hotel for dinner ended a perfect day.
If you ever get the chance to go to O'Reillys or haven't been there for awhile and need another visit - then go!  It's worth it!
Have a great week!

Making Me Happy Sunday

Last night I was at work and my youngest son was on the same shift. We had a fire in the store and it started in one of the refrigerated cabinets. Luckily the store was shut and there was only four of us there at the time. It was amazing how quickly it took off.
While the boss was madly phoning the fire brigade my level-headed boy grabbed a fire extinguisher and put the fire out. The store was full of smoke!
We had 3 fire trucks and 2 ambulances turn up and it was all pretty dramatic and exciting. It could have been a lot worse and if Jack hadn't put the fire out there's no telling how much damage would have been caused.
Very proud of my boy and I wasn't the only one. The firies were very impressed and asked him to join the fire brigade ha ha !
I'm so glad the night didn't turn out worse than it did! Nothing like some drama to spice up the night shift!
Have a great week!

Tuesday Stitching

It was lovely to get back to stitching with the Tuesday group today. Full house too - everyone was there. We talked a lot about our retreat to Warwick and how much we enjoyed it - there was a LOT of laughing!!!
However, I did manage to stitch this gorgeous letter "v" from the Stitcher's Alphabet by Michelle Ridgway. All the letters are so cute with their little birds and roses.
Laurel has just returned home from a holiday to Germany and Austria. We were all spoilt with gorgeous gifts that she brought back for us. Really lovely and another addition to my (growing) thimble collection.
Thanks for another fun day guys!
Hope you all had a Happy Tuesday!

Warwick Day 3

Day 3 at our retreat turned out to be another perfect day - inside and out.
We decided to go back into town with a couple of the other girls and visit the quilting and fabric shops and also stop for a coffee and cake at Bryson's.
This is an amazing shop that not only has great coffee and delicious cakes, but is also full of gifts and homewares in every corner!

A few things fell in my bag and came back home with me.....
A sweet little butter dish and these gorgeous little forks and spoons. Plus the  linen fabric they're sitting on.
Another scarf to add to my collection and this cute bird hanger.
Oh and if course these wonderful fabrics with the cutest owls.
Back at the retreat it was straight into sewing again and I was really hoping to finish the raggy edged quilt I started yesterday.
I have almost finished it with only the clipping and hand-stitching the binding down to go. Very pleased to get 2 quilts nearly finished while we've been here.
Even with all the laughing, mucking around and naughtiness that was the third night, I also managed to finish the sweet little scissor fob given to us from Helen at our Christmas dinner.
Another late night, another fun, productive day.

Warwick - Day 2

Another wonderful day on retreat!

A lovely surprise visit from Chookyblue - made my day!
We celebrated Christmas in July at dinner time.  Sandi and I getting in the spirit and a nice photobomb from De!!!
Our delicious baked dinner thanks to Maree with all the trimmings. We also had sticky date pudding and butterscotch sauce for dessert (thanks Linda!) Talk about spoilt!
And today's thousands of fabric squares (well it felt like thousands!) was turned into......

A huge pile of fabric squares!!!!
Ha ha - they are quilted and hopefully tomorrow they will all join up for a raggy edge quilt!
Have a great night!
